Palm trees have been considered as a symbol of Cambodia since the Angkor Period, which means that all areas with palm trees growing on are counted as Cambodia's land. Palm trees provide people with various advantages. People use palm fruits to make sugar, dessert, juice and wine. Cambodia's palm juice is famous for its taste and quality and it is also an important source for exports. There is a famous Cambodian stew in which palm fruits are the unique of it taste. We even use the leaves of palm trees in some forms of handicraft. Some of those products are baskets, hand-fans, cake's packages, wagons for transportation, and they are used as a material to build houses. The practical use of palm trees is still employed by Cambodian people, especially by those who live in the rural areas.

  1. Yes, I do agree with your article. Palm trees, Duem Tnot, are our national heritage. As we can see from some of Angkor Wat’s photos, we notice that a few palm trees emerge from the temple’s background. In my view, Angkor Wat temple’s view is even more attractive with all those palm trees. They provide a unique look. Furthermore, they are a very useful plant because we can use either their fruits or their leaves. For instance, palm’s stem can use to make boats, juice use to create wine, leaves make into baskets, fans and so on.

  2. I also agree with this. Palm trees is look really nice. It's the symbol of Cambodia. It is very useful because the whole tree we can use such as stem fruits and leaves. The leaves we can do many things. For examples basket and others Khmer traditional things. The fruit we can eat or make the dessert and the juice we can make it sweet or sour as we want.So I think we should protect and build more palm tree.
